Justice, equity, equality

…also means that judges and servants of justice will receive more creative spaces in Kuopio.

The interiors of the handsome buildings coming on the list of protected buildings designed by architect Castrén have been modernised without forgetting the spirit and colours of the past.

A gilded new building, Pilleri (Pill), constructed on the roof, nourishes citizens with the principles of the judiciary: JUSTICE, EQUITY, EQUALITY. Minna Canth’s memory gives further weight to these words, as the Courthouse is located in Minna Canth Street, named after the proponent of noble principles.

Those three words are also repeated in Olaus Petri’s text from 500 years ago. This text is still found in the opening pages of both Finnish and Swedish lawbooks. The texts are proverbial instructions and thoughts both on the purpose of the law and on the duties of judges. Now these proverbs wind on the glass walls of the renovated buildings, continuing and animating the forefathers’ philosophical ponderings in the middle of everyday.
