2017 World Fair story; Astana, Kazakhstan

Partanen & Lamusuo Ltd participated in the 2017 Astana World Expo exhibition design of the Finnish pavilion competition organized by Finpro. This was our idea:

The Finnish pavilion is recognisable from afar: a thrilled crowd flocking in front of glass walls, looking in. The blades of a scale model of a wind turbine flex to many forms in a dancer’s hands. You have to see this exhibition! What’s inside? You can only find out by stepping in!

Glass doors from the atrium lead you to the magically dusky space of the Finnish pavilion. The blades of the wind turbines have filled the projection surface revolving around the entire space up to the ceiling. On the floor level there’s a human-size plant wall that cleans the air of the showroom of impurities.

The wind turbines of the projection surface disappear as the wall of plants grows magically up to the ceiling. The growth changes into three-dimensional by means of 3D mapping. The surface of the solar panel film glimmers from openings in the growth. The image surfaces behind the growth grow and change little by little into impressive image extracts from Finnish special know-how in the energy sector and lovely landscapes from Finnish national parks in celebration of Finland’s centenary.

In the centre of an elliptic space there is a peaceful islet. Is it a café or a bar offering smoothies made of Finnish superfood berries? Comfortable free-form sofas invite you to take a rest and enjoy a cold drink that tastes of summer.

When you return to the open air, you feel rested, refreshed and full of Finnish energy.  This feeling must be shared with someone!

Sharing Finnenergy in Kazakhstan continues the famous exhibition design tradition of Sharing Inspiration of Shanghai, China, through its visuality and contentual solutions.

This time we stayed in a respectable 2nd place in the fierce competition, only four points behind the winner. Congratulations to the winner! 🙂
