From Dream’s Gift to Matrix layer, inspiration and perspectives to sleep

Artist Jaana Partanen’s book Dream’s Gift will be published at the Salo Art Museum on the 8th of May at 10 a.m. The book project dating from years ago is suddenly topical again, if only because this is the first time it meets the printing press. It also indicates the continuum of thoughts and exciting convergences even after many years.

Where does an artist seek his or her inspiration, or is it, after all, innate, springing from one’s own experiences and thoughts? Dream’s Gift relates the dream experiences of Jaana’s year of solitude and how the dreams stuck to her mind until they found their way to the pages of the book as a story. The dream experiences were so intensive that they inspired a new paraffin casting technique and were then transformed into artworks and finally into an entire set of artworks. What makes Dream’s Gift topical is Jaana’s latest entity of works Mental Alchemy – Matrix layer, which also moves in the world of dreams, but from quite another, much more scientific perspective. There is a clear connection between these entities of works, but is it the dream of the artist’s inner inspiration?
