Titbits from the hospital of the future

The city of Kuopio has several important twin cities around the world. A few years ago Jaana and I presented to a large delegation of Shanghai’s Pudong visiting Kuopio the exhibition we had realised in the Finnish pavilion of the Shanghai world fair in 2010. The exhibition received as many as 5.7 million visitors. In accordance with the world fair theme ”Better City – Better World”, our perspective were in the future at the time. We are still on that road – creating a better world.

At the end of August, in an event hosted by medical director Jorma Penttinen, I presented the projects we have planned for the Kuopio University Hospital to an eminent delegation of Kuopio’s twin city Minneapolis. To round off the afternoon, we toured the newly completed sampling spaces and the main entrance hall on the way to the bus. Judging from the undivided admiration and positive feedback of the guests, all we who have participated in the renovation of the Kuopio University Hospital can be proud, both the developer, the builders, the users and we designers as well.
