Pop-up art or a permanent artwork?

Pop-up art pops up somewhere, is there for a while, and then goes away. Its purpose is to be temporary, arouse interest and questions and stir people in the middle of everyday routine. One need not become fond of pop-up art; its mission is elsewhere.  A permanent artwork, in turn, stays put, even if its environment changes. Permanent art builds identity and local attachment, but it also arouses interest and questions. Many public artworks are permanent, made for a certain destination and according to its character. They emphasise the distinctiveness of the site: bring out the special characteristics of the site, build the image of the area and increase communality.

Arts Promotion Centre Finland has organised the Pop-up exhibition of permanent art in the old Putka, Linnankatu 9, Savonlinna, all September.
On 25 September 2013, starting at 2 p.m., Partanen & Lamusuo Ltd as expert guest at the ”Percent for art and the built environment” round table meeting. Welcome to participate!
