Art inspired by local history to be exhibited at the Isokylä community centre in Kokkola

The construction of the Isokylä community centre in Kokkola started in the beginning of 2014. The community centre designed by architects’ office Perko Oy consists of a village-style cluster of buildings in accordance with the old Ostrobothnian idea of a central village. The Kokkola municipality had already earlier decided to support art in its new construction projects according to the percent principle. It established an artist bank to which professional artists could report their interest in public artworks. It was through this channel that artist Jaana Partanen and architect Heikki Lamusuo were elected, from among many good artists, as the designers of the public artwork for the Isokylä community centre. They decided to take the idea of the Ostrobothnian village even farther into Ostrobothnian history and chose the mysterious Troy Town as the subject of their artwork. The Kokkola municipality gave its approval to their idea in October, 2014. The finished artwork will be on view after the completion of the building in the summer of 2015.
