STAR GUEST Laura Lampinen: Science and art playing in consort at the Oulu Art Museum from 24 January to 15 March, 2015

The Checkpoint Leonardo exhibition examining the interaction between science and art will open at the Oulu Art Museum in January. The multifaceted and multisensory artworks examine phenomena of physics, chemistry and biology, mechanics, the sonic environment and man’s relationship with his environment.
The group exhibition of 16 artists includes artworks realised with organic materials and chemically reactive ones, which live and change during the exhibition.

In the art museum’s dark Tasku (Pocket) showroom, the public can delve into the world of dreams in Jaana Partanen’s artwork Matrix layer. Captivating with its visuality and engaging technique, the artwork utilises gaming technology and includes the public moving in the room as a part of the visual world of the artwork.

A Checkpoint Leonardo event day open to all will be arranged on Saturday, 24 January from 12 to 4:30 p.m. The programme includes artists’ addresses and several workshops directed by artists of the exhibition. The Union for Rural Education and Culture participates in the organisation of the exhibition and the events with its Paikan tuntu (Feel of the Place) project.
