Insights at the architects’ conference in Lahti and in the corridors of the Kuopio University Hospital
The Finnish Association of Architects (SAFA) asked Jaana and me to talk at the architects’ conference held at the Sibelius House in Lahti on the subject Everyday insights. As Jaana happened to have a press conference on the Matrix exhibition at the Salo Art Museum at the same time, I was obliged to manage this honorary function alone in front of an audience of 300 colleagues. I presented the insights connecting them to the Kuopio University Hospital planning project. These are the insights brought about by our everyday:
- Dreams come true: In 2000 we dreamt in the corridors of the Kuopio University Hospital that our daughter would recover from her illness and that we could one day make the hospital facilities more welcoming. ? In 2008 we won the competition and obtained the assignment.
- Space heals: A cosy, peaceful space offering positive experiences arouses positive feelings in people and supports their recovery from illness and contentment at work.
- Creativity is in us all: Creativity is a property that ought to be used all the time, both in everyday challenges and at work. Creativity is a tremendous resource; you only have to lure it out.
- Work is fun: This is easily forgotten, but joy and the delight of success can be found in little moments of daily life.
- 1 + 1 = 3: Co-operation is power. Together we can achieve more and better results, spurring each other to do our best.
Oh, and the most important thing: our daughter recovered and is well!
