Replacing the old with piety and care

The Orthodox Church Museum of Finland is located in a building designed by architect Dag Englund and constructed in 1969 in Kuopio. The Church Museum has been undergoing changes ever since the basic exhibition closed down in the autumn of 2009. The basic exhibition served the museum’s visitors for 40 years, but time ineluctably passed it by. It is said that it’s worth waiting for a good thing, and in this case it really is so. The new, well planned and implemented multi-sensory basic exhibition will stand time and is worth investing in. New is made by demolishing old structures. Interior structures have already been pulled down and the repair work of the premises begun. The building of the basic exhibition itself will be started next spring. RIISA – Orthodox Church Museum of Finland will reopen for visitors in the autumn of 2014.

The splendid Finnish cultural heritage is worth fostering. Good Finnish Independence Day to all!
